HIGH temperature-superconductor (HTS) technology is often associated with exotic, low-loss delay lines and military systems. Engineers at Illinois Superconductor Corp. (Mt. Prospect, IL), however, have learned how to apply this high-performance technology to commercial communications designs, such as filters for cellular base stations. The company's new SpectrumMaster line of superconducting filters combines low in-band signal loss, high out of band rejection, and the type of wide dynamic range that is particularly important for digital cellular base stations.
