Determining relationship between leadership style and personality type of managers at educational hospitals affiliated with Iran, Tehran and Shahid Beheshti Universities of Medical Sciences, 2007

摘要
Introduction: In spite of the fact that many factors affect the performance of organizations, it is quite doubtless that leadership is one of the most important factors toward an organization's success. Hospitals are among the complicated organizations with a certain progress which is depend on leadership styles and effective management and it is necessary for hospital managers to know the rudiments and principles of leadership and the style of employee selection to lead the organization toward its main goal. This study is mainly aimed at assessing the leadership style and personality type and to assign relationships between them, at the educational hospitals affiliated with Tehran, lran and Shahid Beheshti universities of medical sciences. Materials and Methods: The co-relational study, was conducted in Spring 2007. Managers working in Tehran, Iran and Shahid Beheshti affiliated hospitals took part in the survey. The sample comprised 44 managers. The data was collected by a questionnaire. Content Validity and test-retest were used to determine validity and reliability of the instrument. Data analysis was carried out through SPSS Version15 using descriptive statistical tests and Spearman test. Results: The findings of the study showed that the Conscientious personality type has highest frequency over other types (36.4%) and the most frequent leadership style is consultative (36.4%). This study showed that personality type and leadership style have a relationship. (P-value = 0.06) Discussion and conclusion: There is a relationship between personality type and leadership styles. Most of the top managers of hospitals have used the consultative style. This Study showed us that personality impact on leadership style and managers should pay attention to this factor as an important variable in organizations.
