The world market for automation systems is valued at approximately DM 200 billion per year. Siemens Automation Group, with its 20,000 employees and 1991 sales of nearly DM 6 billion, is a major player. But stiff competition is accelerating the pace of innovation. With the reorganization of its U.S. activities and the purchase of Texas Instruments' Industrial Controls Unit, Siemens is positioned to meet the challenge.
