HENDECASYLLABES WITH ACCENTS ON THE 6TH AND 7TH SYLLABLES

The study of the hendecasyllabe with accents on the 6th and 7th syllables allows us to address the problem of the sequence of two consecutive accents in a stress-syllable line. This metric pattern is used by canonical poets as an expressive device. Besides, the analysis of the tone curves shows that the relative tonicity of the 6th and 7th syllables is not fixed; each may have a higher pitch. Finally, this accentual pattern allows the hendecasyllabe to be realized and perceived as a line divides into two hemistiches.
