THE ROLE OF THE STATE IN MULTICULTURAL SOCIETIES

Migratory flows give rise to more pluralistic societies that require a clear position on the part of the State. Multiculturalism, in its broadest sense, implies an active position of public power in the interest of achieving greater integration. The aim is to set in motion the appropriate policies for genuine equality, actual equality. To achieve this, we use different instruments, among them intercultural mediation. Emphasis is placed on issues of gender and on the need to apply the gender mainstreaming principle in multicultural countries' policymaking.
