SURFACE OZONE CONCENTRATIONS OVER THE ATLANTIC-OCEAN AND THE WEDDEL SEA

The results of measurements of ozone concentrations in the surface layer of the atmosphere carried out on the board of die research vessel ''Akademik Fedorov'' in August-November, 1989 are presented. The peculiarities of the ozone distribution in the middle latitudes and tropical zone are analyzed. Change in ozone concentration while crossing the subtropic frontal zone and intertropic zone of convergence is noted. The anthropogenic influence on the ozone content is not registered over distant regions of Atlantic. Low values of the ozone concentration (10 - 15 ppb) were observed over the Weddel sea inside the circumpolar vortex. The day-to-day ozone variations in this region are caused by migration of the vortex boundary, passing of the synoptic eddies and the air advection from the middle latitudes' and the Antarctic Continent. Lowering of the ozone concentration in spring, routinely observed in the north polar region and explained by the action of the bromin-organic compounds, is not observed.
