摘要
The Parent‐Infant Observation Guide, a new instrument designed to screen for problems in parent‐infant interaction, was used to rate a sample of 74 high‐risk mothers and their one‐year‐old infants. Facet analysis indicated that items from the instrument were empirically structured in a manner that corresponded to an a priori definitional framework. Contingent responsiveness to infants' communication was the aspect of maternal behaviour that was most consistently related to concurrent infant social behaviour and infant social behaviour in other situations. It is suggested that intervention programmes that emphasise “infant simulation” will be more effective in producing improved infant outcome when they also encourage parents to be more sensitive to their children's signals. Encouragement of positive, mutually responsive exchanges between parents and infants should be the basis of early intervention for high‐risk dyads. Copyright © 1990, Wiley Blackwell.
