CITY PLANNING, PLANNING OF VILLAGE SETTLEMENTS DISASTER MANAGEMENT PLAN IN THE CHECKER-LIKE(GRID SQUARE) URBAN FABRICS; CASE STUDY: HISTORIC CENTER OF ARAK, IRAN

Statement of the problem. Iran is one of the most susceptible areas of earthquake. According to the official reports, 10,000 earthquakes occur annually. There are several historic cities in the country which have valuable urban fabrics. Arak has been located in the 260 kilometers of the southwest of Tehran. The historic city includes bazaar complex and residential areas. Bazaar plays a crucial role in the Iranian cities and is the economic center of the city. Historic urban fabric of Arak has a checker-like system and is unique among the Iranian cities. Earthquake is the most probable disaster which can hurt the city. Results and conclusions. Planning for disaster mitigation in this case can be used as a sample for the similar cities. Instructions in this case should be evaluated and corrected by consulting and utilizing the global experiences. Providing a disaster management plan can be helpful for the municipality of Arak and preparing the city for world heritage list.
