Scientific production in Finance. An analysis for Latin America

This research aimed to characterize the state of scientific research in Finance reported for Latin America. . For the development of this research two bibliographic reviews were made. Using Google Scholar and in particular using the POP tool, a database was prepared containing 58 registers that allow to analyze the impact and at the same time retrieve the corresponding scientific articles. Employing ScienceDirect for the same words in the title of the publication allowed to analyze if publications in Spanish language indexed in this Directory. The review allowed to determine three factors that can characterize the current situation of the investigations in Finances in Latin America and that were: uncritical acceptance of the Anglo-Saxon research model, the shortcomings of the methodology of the empirical research and the strategies of investigation and diffusion of the results. The apparent divorce of practice for the research in finance in our countries, and more consideration of the academic evaluation criteria of specialized journals was another consideration. The need for independent national assessments by associations or professional associations in Finance and the execution of specialized national events can provide a periodic evaluation of results and the orientation of these to problems of national and regional importance. The realization of collective works that take into account the approach of all the disciplines that require an investigation in finances is analyzed.
