SPECIAL FISHERY MANAGEMENT OF WATER-SUPPLY RESERVOIRS

The fish population and fishery management of the water supply reservoirs in the basin of the river Morava were subjected to a 15-year investigation and the results were summed up and evaluated. With the exception of the first three to five years, the special fish stock, consisting of salmonids d(brown trout, rainbow trout, American char), failed to be maintained in the rreservoirs under study. In the subsequent years of operation of the reservoirs, another special stock was developed, consisting of pike, pike-perch, rapacious carp, sheatfish. In spite of some criticism, it is concluded that it is necessary in the water supply reservoirs to apply the regime of so-called special fishery management in which priority is given to the predatory fishes (salmonids in a certain stage), both by stocking and, especially, by subsequent protection of the stock against all destructive effects, mainly unapproved angling.
