OPTIONS FOR INCREASING COMPETITIVENESS, QUALITY AND PRODUCTIVITY - THE CASE OF THE BRAZILIAN COMPUTER INDUSTRY

This paper discusses the restructuring of Brazil's computer industry in the face of the new demands placed upon it in terms of competitiveness, quality and productivity, given the country's new, more open economic structure. It purports to stress the following topics: (1) the importance of one option in particular for the survival of this industry: that of developing complete specific solutions; (2) the necessity to integrate efforts to improve the degree of efficiency of the small and medium-sized firms of the informatics industrial sector. On the basis of recent field research carried out in this area, new insights are given where such options for the reorganization of this industry are concerned.
