摘要
The food security levels is one part of the millennium targets determined for the United Nations Organization. Underdeveloped countries have partially achieved it, because the percentage of poverty has not been reduced in most countries in the worldwide economy. From this point of view, the food security is part of the solution. The main interrogative is, which are the production capacity level enough of the agricultural sector to supply the basic consumption of domestic families? And which factors have affected this production capacity? The worldwide economy and the economy of Costa Rica have been experimenting poverty and inequity. Also, the social vulnerability has a relationship between poverty and food security in developing countries. The main purpose of this article is to explain the main critical factors that are affecting the loss of agricultural production capacity to cover the own consumption. The main result claim that most of the population of Costa Rica depend of imports of basic grains such as rice, beans, corn and wheat to complete the nutritional requirements of each people. Moreover, there is an intensive use of agrochemicals that are affecting the human health, the fertility of the soil and the water purity level near to agricultural plantations. Therefore, the society need the intervention of agricultural government policy to improve the sustainable of food conditions.
