摘要
John Dewey's educational ideas are alive and well and their influence on millions of children in the United States and around the world is undeniable. 1 In this context, it is relevant to look at some of his ideas that have currency in educational discourse and practice. On the ensuing pages, therefore, first, his dominant theme of human fulfillment is discussed. Second, his educational vision-especially his concepts of education as growth and the democratic education-is examined. Finally, his ideas are critiqued in the context of nonpublic and Christian education and show that the Christian education complements Dewey's educational vision.
