SIMULATION AS AN AID IN PRACTICAL STATISTICAL PROBLEM-SOLVING

In this paper, the use of simulation as an aid in statistical consultancy is discussed. Simulation helps in solving mathematically intractable problems, in speedy solution of otherwise solvable problems, in providing assurance with regard to mathematically derived solutions, in enabling those with limited mathematical skills to be problem-solvers, and in communicating solutions to clients. These points are developed and illustrated in the context of examples based on the authors' experience.
