Past, present and future of the humanistic model of education

The thesis here defended in this paper is that the main cause of the crisis that the Spanish schooling system is submerged in, is the progressive abandonment of the humanistic educational model and its substitution by a new model that is presented as "liberating" o "progressive", although it is not. As the new educative model, apart from other inconveniences, not only does not finish off with the social inequalities, but it makes enormously difficult the social promotion of those who were born in the popular classes, we propose to recuperate again the traditional model, conveniently adapted to the new times. To justify what was said before, we make a brief run through the history of education to know: first, the origin and nature of the humanistic education; second, its recuperation after the medieval parenthesis, by the Italian humanistic movement; third, the reasons of its dissemination in the Spain of the Renaissance and its posterior decadence; and, last, the origin and nature of the new model and the consequences that its implantation has produced in school teaching of our country.
