摘要
What does it mean, for man, to be finite? In which way does finitude reconcile itself with the inevitable advance of history? In The Order of Things (1964) Michel Foucault writes a few pages concerning the possible role of history as one of the human sciences, born at the moment of the birth of Man as a subject and object of knowledge. This article will trace some of the most important philosophical and cultural conditions that allowed the epistemological turn from the historical discourse of the continuous to the discourse of the discontinuous. Reflections will be put forward to clarify why Foucault doesn't categorize history as a human science but gives it a foundational role, and why the analytic of finitude is important to build up that critical anthropology that will lead to his last theory of subject.
