The examination of male philosophical tradition from the viewpoint of Gender Studies represents an important part of feminist philosophy. This essay about one of the most famous theorists of the modern age, Georg Simmel (1858-1918), is to be seen in this context. Menzer demonstrates paradigmatically how metaphysical constructions help to petrify and perpetuate sexist prejudices rather than enlighten them through reasonable criticism. Against the one-sideness of the male perspective, the authoress takes the side of the female critical subject and her deconstruction of traditional gender-dichotomies.
