The review deals with a new variant of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma - large cell anaplastic lymphoma (LCAL). Its history, terminology, ultramicroscopy, phenotype and cytogenetics are discussed. The existing views on the possible role of viruses in the development of LCAL are summarized. The description of clinical forms (cutaneous, with the injury of lymph nodes, mixed, primary and secondary ones, including rare locations) is given. The problems of differential diagnosis, therapy and the data on relatively favourable prognosis are adduced.
