摘要
A frequent question posed by design engineers relates to that of estimating the coefficient of friction of a rubber component of a particular device. Some guidelines for predicting likely levels of friction can be based on the notion that the friction force will depend upon the real area of contact between rubber and substrate, the interfacial shear strength, and the deformation properties of the rubber. Each of these factors depends on others. The topics covered include static friction; sliding friction; track surface material effect on friction; effects of lubricants; friction on ice; and surface treatments.
