COMBINED BASIC THERAPY WITH GOLD AND CHLOROQUINE IN THE TREATMENT OF RHEUMATOID-ARTHRITIS

Since 1982 the authors are employ the combination of gold (Tauredon) and chloroquine (Delagil) in the treatment of highly active rheumatoid arthritis. If no lasting remission is achieved with Tauredon alone, if the steroids cannot be degraded and if no side effects occurred during gold therapy, this is complemented by an additional administration of chloroquine. We report on the results of the treatment of the first ten patients. The effectivity of this combination was observed, and there was no enhancement of the side effects. This communication - which should be considered as preliminary - is intended to stimulate rechecking of this treatment method with a larger patient material.
