摘要
Through the application of mutilocus enzyme electrophoresis to populations of N. meningitidis, it has been possible to contribute to an understanding of the relationships between epidemics occurring in different parts of the world. The identification of disease-causing clones is important for the selection of strains to be used in defining new serotypes, the antigenic proteins of which may be included in vaccines. Clone identification may also contribute to an improve understanding of bacterial virulence and host factors in development of meningococcal disease.
