Spanish Registry of Heart Valve Repair 2014

Introduction and objectives: The Working Group on Valve Repair of the Spanish Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery presents the fourth annual report on reconstructive valve surgery of the mitral, aortic and tricuspid valves performed in Spain during 2014. Material and methods: Data were collected through an on-line questionnaire, retrospective, voluntary, anonymous and unaudited. Repair and replacement valve activity was detailed. In mitral group, surgeries were classified according to their etiology and both surgical mortality and risk were collected. Results: Data from 27 centres were gathered. 70% of them reported data on mortality. The percentage of overall repair procedures was 22% (36.6% mitral, 3.5% aortic and 92.5% tricuspid). Mitral valve repair was feasible in 60% of degenerative, ischemic and functional etiologies and only in 2.8% of rheumatic valve diseases. The overall mortality rate was 1.95%. Percentage of aortic valve repair procedures ranges between 0 and 48% in the different groups. Tricuspid repair surgery remains similar to previous years Mini-invasive techniques were used in 3.4% of mitral and 11.8% of aortic valve surgeries. Conclusions: Mitral valve repair is consolidated in Spain, remaining infrequent in cases of rheumatic valve disease.
