摘要
The dry (no liquid release agent) hot roll fusing technology developed by IBM for the Series III copier family is a new addition to fusing technology. The development of this technology from the first demonstration of the concept to the final configuration in the Series III machine provides a description of what is required to bring a new approach to a state of reliability which is adequate for use in a commercial machine. The technology choice description gives insight into the alternatives which are available. The development of the technology to a feasible state demonstrates the interdisciplinary technical work required to capitalize on a good idea. The hardware design effort required for maximum reliability and serviceability illustrates the additional effort required after technologists might think the work is finished.
