EFFECTS OF ALLOYING ELEMENTS ON PITTING CORROSION OF ALUMINUM

摘要
The effects of alloying elements on the pitting corrosion of aluminum in 1N NaCL solution were studied on binary alloys containing different amounts of Fe, Si, Cu, Mg, Mn, Ni, V, Cr, B, Zr, Ti, and Be. Anodic and cathodic polarization curves, pitting potentials, pitting dissolution currents, and densities of pits at constant potentials were measured. It was found that addition of those elements which increased cathodic polarization increased the resistance of aluminum to pitting corrosion.
