摘要
When small amounts of polar organic solvents like CH3CN or DMSO are added to water as a solvent the lifetime of Ru(bpy)3(2+) complexes and their quenching by MV2+ is strongly influenced. This is attributed to selective solvation. An estimate of the first solvation shell is given and it is inferred that electron transfer occurs in a solvent separated pair. Thus the inner-sphere reorganization energy is influenced by selective solvation. Ionic strength affects not only diffusion but also the first solvation shell.
