REALIZATION OF THE TRIPLE POINT OF MERCURY

摘要
A simple apparatus has been designed and set up to realise the thermal equilibrium state of the triple point of mercury (-38.842-degrees-C), used presently as secondary reference point for the calibration of platinum resistance thermometer and other thermometers. To realise this fixed point, both freezing and melting techniques have been used. The triple point of mercury has been realised to a temperature stability of +/- 0.5 mK over a period of an hour or so and to a reproducibility of +/- 1 mK.
