Available measurements on the drift mobility of photocarriers in the silver halides show the importance of shallow trapping, especially in grains as compared to crystals. On the other hand, the Hall effect should be independent of multiple trapping and relate to microscopic mobility as determined by optical mode scattering in the vicinity of room temperature. A new experimental method has been developed in order to observe Hall effect in evaporated thin films of AgBr, AgCl, and AgI. High sensitivity is achieved by the use of large electric and magnetic fields and the averaging of short duration pulses. Finally, the basic asymmetry in the properties of electrons and holes is discussed with reference to band structure. 18 refs.
