摘要
High-speed photography has revealed the macroscopically stable growth of wing cracks in columnar, fresh-water ice compressed uniaxially within the brittle regime. The growth is influenced by the interaction of the cracks with free surfaces and is in excellent agreement with the Ashby-Hallam model [Acta metall. 34, 497 1986)].
