摘要
Thermoluminescence (TL) from CaF2: Eu2+ irradiated with γ‐rays is investigated. While undoped crystals show colouration above a threshold exposure, no such effect is observed with europium doped samples. For doped samples five prominent TL glow peaks are recorded for the temperature range 30 to 400 °C. The TL emission spectra resemble the characteristic fluorescence emission of Eu2+. The optical absorption studies show that no charge conversion on irradiation or on heating the irradiated CaF2: Eu2+ samples takes place. However charge conversion for some other rare earth ions stabilizing in the trivalent state in CaF2 on irradiation is indeed observed. The results show that the extended Merz and Pershan model fails to account for the observed TL emission from CaF2: Eu2+. The present investigations point toward the existence of some kind of defect equilibria associated with the presence of Eu2+ in the lattice. This defect equilibria is different from that observed for rare earth ions stabilizing in CaF2 in the trivalent state. Copyright © 1990 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA
