MANAGERIAL AND ECONOMICAL CHALLENGES FOR VLSI/ULSI

In this talk the managerial and economical challenges for VLSI/ULSI production are discussed in terms of budgets needed, effect optimisation of investments, decision-making processes, consequences for the internal and external organisation, and the environmental problems involved. It is argued that in many of the above sectors quite different approaches are to be developed in comparison to those in existing technologies. The SGS-Thomson company is taken as a specific example to illustrate practical solutions.
