THE STATE OF OPTOELECTRONIC DEVICE RESEARCH IN EASTERN-EUROPE

Optoelectonic research has a long tradition in Eastern Europe which is comparable with that in most other countries. However, although the level of scientific research is high, especially in the Soviet Union, there are not sufficient production facilities to use the research. This paper introduces a number of research groups and their results, providing a brief review of optoelectronics activities. Industrial activities are also listed. The political and economic changes of 1989-1990 had a marked influence on research and development as well as production. This paper must therefore give an incomplete view of the present status.
