STRESS-CONCENTRATIONS WITH SINGULARITIES IN FILAMENT-WOUND SPHERICAL PRESSURE-VESSELS

This paper presents the continuing research in the development of a model to predict the burst pressure of filament reinforced metallic spherical vessels. Discontinuity effects due to the geometry design of a vessel were considered. Stress concentration was studied by means of experimental stress analysis, such as photoelastic coating, and numerical procedure, such as finite element method. Results obtained by these techniques were then used to improve a simple degradation model which did not take singularities into account.
