EPILEPSY AND SPORTS PARTICIPATION

Physicians, parents, and physical education specialists should not be overcautious or unduly restrictive in recommending physical activities for those who have epilepsy. People with epilepsy report that they feel better and have better seizure control when they maintain a regular exercise program. But before someone who has epilepsy begins a new activity, the following factors must be considered: risk of the sport, frequency and timing of seizures, medication, and strength of preference for the sport.
