The Mataro solid waste treatment facility is the first such facility to be placed in operation in Catalonia, an industrial and densely populated area in Spain. For the Mataro operation to be a success, it is essential that the odor problem be solved. The designers of the operation hope to prevent the generation of foul odors by applying high aeration rates and using a new air channeling system.
