The temporal jitter of a modelocked argon ion laser and a dye laser is measured in the frequency domain using a spectrum analyzer and in the time domain using a sampling oscilloscope. Values for the jitter, that differ from those previously reported are given and the level of agreement between the two measurement methods is discussed.
