EXPERIENCE ABOUT ASSESSMENT OF COMPETENCES OF ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING FRESHMEN USING RUBRICS

摘要
This paper presents an assessment experience of oral and writing expression competences for Universidad Nacional de Colombia freshmen in the Electronic Engineering introduction course. These competences were developed under an engineering teaching approach known as CDIO that pursues an integral student formation. The assessment was carried out using rubrics that allowed quantifying student's performance for each proposed activity as well as following their progress on the three mentioned competences during the course. Initially, a diagnostic evaluation tool was applied in order to determine student level on each competence at the beginning of the course. Subsequently, several activities were performed to foster that particular level and evaluating them it was possible to gather measurements that, at the end of the term, allowed characterizing the student evolution during the semester. Additionally, rubrics were useful to detect aspects of each competence in which the students showed a better performance and those activities that were not effective enough to reach the proposed objectives. This information might be used as an input for introducing modifications on the activities oriented to promote the mentioned competences in the same course offered in the future or in other courses of the program.
