摘要
Mechanisms which influence the selection and growth of floc-forming bacteria also affect the growth of (a) filamentous bacteria associated with bulking and biological foaming, and (b) unstable floc structures. The degree to which activated-sludge bacterial cultures are influenced by known process control parameters is discussed. These include mixed liquor solids concentration, sludge retention time and dissolved-oxygen concentration, substrate loading, and sludge conditioning. The effects of climatic variability and subtle changes in sewage composition are not easily determined. By considering these factors in the way they determine the sludge culture environment and hence influence species selection, a concept of process management based on biologically oriented control principles can be derived.
