ANALYSIS OF DISCURSIVE MARKER "MAS" IN AVATAR MOVIE FILM CRITICS

In more argumentative genres such as movie reviews, for example, we observed the use of certain segmentation units conducting the process of interpretation of the text and direct discourse: the discourse markers. Such linguistic elements are made up of morphosyntactic, semantic and pragmatic properties. For this reason, the functions assigned to the "but" must be analyzed considering the context in which the marker is employed. In this sense, this work has the objective to investigate the semantic-pragmatic features of "but" from its use in movie theater criticism "Avatar", published respectively in Veja magazine, the newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo and the Cineclick page available on the web. The adopted methodological procedures were: bibliographical research for sustaining theoretical framework of the composition of the research; selection of critical virtual movie magazines; corpus analysis. The theoretical framework consists mainly of conceptions of Portoles (2001), Alomba Ribeiro (2004) and Antunes (2007). We believe that it will contribute to existing reflections in Portuguese about the use of "but" in the field of writing, showing that this linguistic element has functions not covered by traditional, basic grammar for the composition of certain argumentative texts.
