摘要：
This paper treats, in general, different wear mechanisms of metal cutting tools. Almost all physicomechanical properties of the tool material responsible for its wear resistance are shown to be changed under ion beam irradiation. Some practical recommendations on developing ion implantation technology for cutting tools, depending on the predominant type of tool wear, are given.
