Evaluation of Lipid Parameters in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Aim: In this study, it was investigated levels of serum lipid parameters in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and the association between these parameters and disease activity markers. Material and Method: 46 patients with RA diagnosed and 31 healthy people as a control group were included in this study. Duration of disease ranged from 0 to 12 years (mean 4,2 +/- 4,3 years). In both groups serum total cholesterol (TK), triglyceride (TG), LDLcholesterol (LDL-K), HDL-cholesterol (HDL-K) levels were analyzed. Also in RA group, serum high sensitive CRP (hsCRP), CRP, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and rheumatoid factor (RF) levels were analyzed. Results: In RA and control groups, serum TG levels were 134 +/- 76 mg/dl and 179 +/- 113mg/dl (p= 0.310), serum TK levels were 176 +/- 36 mg/dl and 195 +/- 49 mg/dl (p= 0.320), serum LDL-K levels were 103 +/- 33mg/dl and 116 +/- 41mg/dl (p= 0.420), serum HDL-K levels were 50 +/- 15mg/dl and 47 +/- 12mg/dl (p= 0.570). In correlation analysis, it was not found a significant correlation between any lipid parameters and CRP or ESR. Conclusion: As a result, it was found that lipid parameters of patients with RA were similar to healthy subjects ' values. In addition, it was not found a significant correlation between any lipid parameters and diseases activity markers such as CRP and ESR.+/-
