FAST READOUT OF SCINTILLATING FIBERS USING POSITION-SENSITIVE PHOTOMULTIPLIERS

摘要
Major progress has recently been achieved in the fast readout of scintillating fibres using position-sensitive photomultipliers (PSPMs). Experimental results obtained with commercially available PSPMs already show a space resolution better than 200 mum, a time resolution of about 1.5 ns with a detection efficiency higher than 90%, and the possibility of separating double hits with a minimum distance of approximately 3 mm. An upgrade of PSPMs based on new grid dynode structures is also in progress. Results obtained with one new PSPM prototype in a magnetic field are also presented.
