DETERMINATION OF HEPARIN BY A MODIFIED TEST OF THE PARTIAL THROMBOPLASTIN TIME

The determination of Heparin in raw material as in some different pharmaceutical preparations of Heparin was done by a method of measuring the partial thromboplastin time (PTT) and validated with regard to precision and accuracy (tests with spiked preparations). The results using the PTT-method were compared with those obtained according to the method described by the german pharmacopoeia (DAB 9; identical with the method of the BP 88). The validity of all tests was proven. Investigations carried out by both methods showed identical results. Since the reagents of the PTT-test are well standardized and commercially available by several manufacturers the PTT-method should be given preference to the DAB-(BP-)method in our view.
