Antenatal diagnosis of placenta accreta

Potentially serious pathology and increasingly common, the placenta accreta has a special place in terms of postpartum haemorrhage. This is an intimate fusion of the placenta with uterus. The presence of a uterine scar with placental next defines a group of high-risk patients. Antenatal diagnosis is mainly based on ultrasound data currently well defined. The use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be useful especially in case of strong suspicion of invasion of the bladder. Advances in imaging including 2D ultrasound have improved prenatal diagnostic accuracy of placental adhesion defects and allowed the organization of multidisciplinary therapeutic management.
