摘要
The problems mentioned in the title of this paper have been coming about along with growing possibilities for prenatal detection and treatment of foetal malformations and other diseases. Implied in the spectrum of possible decision-making are justifiable, controversial or uncertain prenatal therapies as well as the recommendation of medical termination of pregnancy. Relatives of the pregnant woman should be involved in decision-making, and due consideration should be given to family, society, and valid law. These aspects may be accompanied by conflict regarding medical responsibilities for enlightenment of patients and other people concerned as well as for maintenance of a given pregnancy. A solution to the problem might be obtained from unrestricted evaluation of cases. New methods must not be allowed to give rise to new moral and ethical standards. Medical termination of pregnancy can be justified only in few, clearly defined situations. Family and society continue to be under an obligation to integrate a malformed child. Yet, prenatal medicine now has ways and means for early treatment and thus for alleviation of the family's burgen.
