摘要
The film O homem do pau-brasil (1981), by Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, raises a lot of discussions about the Oswald de Andrade's work - symbol artist of Brazilian Modernism and also the ain inspiration of Joaquim Pedro de Andrade's filmography. There are a lot of similar characteristics between the modernist writer and the filmmaker. And those characteristics might reveal not only an aesthetic choice but director's political view to investigate the Brazilian identity. Therefore, this article deals with the relations between the modernist aesthetic of cannibalistic nature and the film by Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, whose respect to the incorporation of this literary school in his cinematography. For this, it will be used to prove the literary adaptation performed by the filmmaker and the relations established by him with the society of his time in a historical perspective.
