CATALYSIS OF THE OXIDATION OF CYCLOHEXANE AND THE DECOMPOSITION OF HYDROGEN-PEROXIDE BY HETEROPOLY-COMPLEXES

By means of P-31 NMR, the heteropolyanion PW11O397- and PW11M(L)O39n- (L = H2O, OH-, O2- )complexes of a number of metals with this anion in acetonitrile solution have been characterized. Their catalytic properties in the oxidation of cyclohexene and the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide have been studied. It is found that the catalytic properties of the heteropolycomplexes differ from those of the initial PW11O397- anion and depend on the metal ion introduced into their composition. The formation of the intermediate compounds participating in both reactions has been detected for the PW11O397- anion and the Fe(III) and Cr(III) complexes by electronic absorption spectroscopy. The structure of the intermediate compounds is discussed.
