An improved methodology is shown to evaluate crystallographic textures in pressed pellets of Bi-2223 powders. The X-ray analysis documents that, after uniaxial compression to -50% strain, ten times as many plate-like crystallites have their c-axes parallel to the compression direction as perpendicular to it. This pattern of preferred orientation is in agreement with expectations from a model of homogeneous reorientation of rigid particles during compaction.
