ACETOGENIC BACTERIA FROM OIL-FIELDS OF TATARIA AND WESTERN SIBERIA

From formation waters of oil fields in Tataria and Western Siberia, the authors isolated pure cultures of bacteria that form acetate while growing on a mixture of H-2 + CO2 and other C1 compounds. They studied their morphology, ultrastructure, and also physiological properties. It was shown that while growing on C1 compounds acetogens form polysaccharides. One of the isolated strains is described as a new species of the Acetoanaerobium genus: Acetoanaerobium romashkovii sp. nov. v.
