Germans already in the colonies before the Revolutionary War were anti-English because they were anti-royalists. Those born in the colonies of German descent had a large stake in the success of the war. Many had already fought during the French and Indian War (1755-1763). And before that, in 1748, when George Washington was a 16-year old surveyor in the Blue Bidge area he mct a large elemcnt of Germans pushing westward in search of land. He had faith in them, and made some of them later as his first bodyguard. One became Chief Baker for the Continental Army; and one immigrant in Carlysle, Pennsylvania, was to become know in Revolutionary War Legends as "Molly Pitcher" who participated in some battles in New Jersey.
