摘要
Design, fabrication and characterization of a 4 x 4 optical matrix switch on InP are reported. The matrix is built up in a rearrangement nonblocking architecture using current controlled directional couplers as optical switches. The overall device length, including two waveguide fans for a 400-mu-m wide spacing of the input and output ports, amounts to only 6.5 mm. Measurements show low and uniform switching currents of 9.5 mA +/- 0.2 mA, good crosstalk suppressions of greater-than-or-equal-to 10 dB for any lightpath, and transmission losses of less than 15 dB.
